Ed White students demonstrate leadership at meeting

Student Invocation and Pledge

Students active in their schools and community often get unique opportunities to demonstrate their leadership. A’Yanna Price and Isaiah Smothers from Ed White Middle School were recently asked to lead the North East ISD Board of Trustees meeting with the pledge and invocation, and guests in attendance were moved by their stories.

A’Yanna, an eighth grader, plays on the volleyball and basketball teams at Ed White, while also maintaining As and Bs. She takes all the most challenging classes that Ed White offers, while helping both the students and staff as a Junior PALS student and library aide. She’s involved with her youth community at church, volunteering to make dolls for children who are suddenly or temporarily uprooted from their home. A’Yanna is an aspiring journalist and hopes to one day write fiction while traveling the world.

Isaiah is an eighth-grade student in the DATA program at Ed White, and he is a true scholar-athlete. While maintaining his A/B average, he has been on the football, basketball, track, golf, and soccer teams these past two years. He’s a tuba player in the band, but one of his passions is cooking. He will continue his journey in the DATA program at Roosevelt, but he’s excited that he can also take culinary electives there as well. He is involved with his church, volunteering, not surprisingly, in the café there.
