LEE cadets connect with local veterans

JROTC cadets at LEE High School spent part of their Veterans Day with veterans at the Ventura Hills Senior Living Center. Members of the Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams presented the colors, conducted a drill demonstration and spent time speaking with residents. Several cadets asked the veterans about their time in the service and what inspired them to join the military. One of these residents was Jim Ulbrich.

Ulbrich joined the Navy in 1945 when he was just 17. “I was real anxious to help out. Everyone I knew wanted to join the military to do their part.”

He told cadets about his time serving on Naval Air Bases in San Diego, California and Tijuana, Mexico, where he worked as on-base security and helped transport prisoners. Spending time to simply get to know these veterans is the greatest gift LEE cadets could give while honoring their commitment and sacrifice for our country.
