Elementary students contribute to STEAM Carnival

Design and Technology Academy (DATA) students at Roosevelt High School took their passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics (STEAM) on the road in preparation for North East ISD’s Fourth Annual STEAM Carnival. DATA students worked with nearly 600 young innovators from Vineyard Ranch, Camelot and Royal Ridge elementary schools to create interactive projects that will be on display in the Roosevelt courtyard during the STEAM Carnival Friday, Nov. 15 from 6:30 – 9 p.m.

DATA students guided Vineyard Ranch students through the creation of interactive lightning bugs that filled the surface of 10 whimsical trees. Camelot students used their knowledge of simple circuits and coding to create four interactive projects that reflected what they learned from reading Because of Winn Dixie.

Royal Ridge students created a rainbow lightbox with various properties of light that were studied during a unit on properties of matter. After construction, DATA students took the boxes to Roosevelt to piece them together to create one large, beautiful wall. DATA students will travel back to Royal Ridge in the coming weeks to assist them in creating glowing density towers.
