Johnson students lead November Board of Trustees meeting

Two outstanding students from Johnson High School led the North East ISD Board of Trustee meeting on Monday Nov. 11 with the Invocation and Pledge to the U.S. and Texas flags.

These students were selected for this honor based on their outstanding performance in academics and extracurricular activties, as well as excellent conduct.

Amina Rose is a junior at Johnson and led Trustees and guests with a special invocation. Amina is a member of Key Club and currently serves as the Chapter Vice President of the Johnson Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and serves as the FBLA Area 4, Texas Vice President.  She is the historian in Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and a member of the Union Club. Amina is also a member of the Student Voice group, and the editor of Jack & Jill of America. She was joined by her parents, Dakari and Natarsha Rose.

Millan Fernandes is a senior at Johnson and led the pledge. Millian is an AP student, will graduate Summa Cum Laude, and has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past two years. He is an excellent athlete and a four year tennis letterman. As a Regional Semi-finalist in the sport, he helped lead Johnson to a 2nd place finish in District team tennis and to the second round of playoffs. He was joined by his mom, Lisa Whyatt.

 

2019 National Healthy School Award-Colonial Hills Elementary School

Colonial Hills

The Board recognized Colonial Hills as being one of America’s healthiest schools. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation recognized Colonial Hills in September with a National Healthy Schools Gold Award. This distinction is only given to eight schools in the country each year.

Criteria for the application includes: exceeding federal nutrition standards for school meals and snacks, offering breakfast daily, incorporating physical activity, implementing District wellness policies and, involving parents and community members in decision making.

Colonial Hills is the only school from Texas to be recognized with this honor, and this is the second time they have received the Gold Award.
