North East ISD honors Veterans Day heroes

It is a longstanding tradition at North East ISD to honor veterans and active-duty members of the military with a variety of ceremonies and events on Veterans Day. While the day is often thought of as a time of remembrance, it is also an opportunity for students, staff and administrators to celebrate the veterans and service members who play such a crucial role in our community.

Veterans were welcomed across NEISD on Monday, Nov. 11, with heartfelt speeches, cheerful breakfast receptions and patriotic programs filled with video tributes, poems and music.

The ceremony at Garner Middle School featured former student and MacArthur graduate Michael Salazar as the guest speaker. He is currently stationed at Lackland Air Force Base as a flight commander. Salazar’s return to his former school is even more personal because his younger sister, Kylie, is in 8th grade at Garner.

Wilderness Oak Elementary School saluted its veterans with a special tribute video narrated by several students. Click here to watch the video.
