MacArthur celebrates community, spirit and tradition

MacArthur High School celebrated an evening of community, spirit and tradition at the annual Mactoberfest and Brahma March on Wednesday, Nov. 6. These events take place every year to commemorate the longest standing football rivalry between North East ISD schools, MacArthur and LEE high schools.

Students, family and friends enjoyed the Mactoberfest carnival in the MacArthur Courtyard. Hosted by PALs, 25 MacArthur clubs and organizations sponsored games and booths selling refreshments for all to enjoy. MacArthur PALS collected hundreds of donations to use as prizes including Kendra Scott Jewelry, Starbucks gift cards, Wash Tub full service washes, Yeti’s,  Zito’s gift cards, Chuy’s T-Shirts and gift baskets, Las Palapas freebies, Raising Cane’s gift basket, Hungry Howie’s Pizza gift cards, and various prizes from Frost Bank.  In order to win these prizes, attendees played the “pick a pop” game and the “guess how many?” game. While this event fosters community and fun, it also serves a greater purpose. All of the proceeds from admission sales will be donated to Wish For Our Heroes, a nonprofit organization that serves military personnel, veterans and their families.

After Mactoberfest, everyone gathered for the annual Brahma March, the parade of Mac clubs and organizations organized by Student Council that takes place in the Regency neighborhood.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sean Maika served as Grand Marshall of the parade this year. The theme was “Neon Night,” so participating clubs and organizations were decked out in neon and glow sticks for the evening parade! Brahma March judges watched for clubs that showed the most spirit to be honored at the pep rally. The neighborhood streets were lined with spirited onlookers enjoying this long standing tradition.

The parade route brought everyone back to the MacArthur Courtyard to finish off the evening with a night pep rally with lighting provided by the District’s Electrical Trades Program. Kicking off the pep rally, Principal Pete Martinez recognized Dr. Sean Maika and gave him a Holy Cow award, an honor often bestowed on MacArthur faculty who go above and beyond for our students, staff and community. It was a great night and MacArthur would like to thank everyone who came out to celebrate and participate in this wonderful tradition.
