Former teacher/board member joins NEISD Wall of Heroes

It was a cold and rainy night, but that didn't stop dozens of loved ones from coming out to honor their family member and friend -- Muriel Ruth McDonald.

Muriel is the third person and first woman to be inducted onto the North East ISD Wall of Heroes. A special ceremony was held on Nov. 7 before the Churchill vs Roosevelt game at Heroes Stadium. Accepting the award on her behalf is her son Bill McDonald.

Muriel was an NEISD teacher for 14 years and the first teacher to be elected to the NEISD Board of Trustees where she served for six years. She was also a longtime supporter of the Academy of Creative Education (ACE), serving on the school's corporate council for 17 years.

Muriel passed away in 2014 and spent her entire life dedicated to her family and education -- not only her education, but also the education of multiple generations of NEISD students.

North East Heroes Stadium received its name to honor and praise members of the District and community who made a positive impact in the lives of current and future generations. The “Wall of Heroes” provides the opportunity to enshrine noteworthy individuals with ties to NEISD with the hope of inspiring others.

Among those in attendance at the ceremony were countless family members, former colleagues and friends, former NEISD Superintendent Dr. Richard Middleton and current District leadership.
