Cadet receives certificate for ministry

Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp Cadets are typically known as students who become stellar citizens and get involved in extracurricular activities and participate in their communities. Roosevelt High School Cadet Second Lieutenant Robert Torres is no exception to what this program helps to produce for the Raider community.

Recently, Torres earned a significant achievement when he completed a one-year course in Christian Family Church International (CFCI) Bible College for Ministry. Torres, who is passionate about his faith and being a Christian was awarded a certificate making it official.

“I have always been very passionate about my beliefs.” said Cadet Torres. “Ever since I was a kid, it was always a dream of mine to be a pastor and travel around the world.”

Torres, who also serves on the Roosevelt JROTC Varsity Precision Air Rifle team, made the decision to take on extra college courses outside of his high school curriculum, so that in the future he can pursue a career and spread his beliefs.

Every day after school and practice, Torres attended night school classes and spent several hours each week studying ideology and theology. Torres tested his mettle and showed his resiliency as he juggled practice, day school and night school, eventually pushing through to become certified for Ministry.

“The work was extremely overwhelming with the college load on top of high school Pre-AP and AP classes. I struggled with managing my time at first, but later in the year of the program, I got my act together and pushed through to do my very best.” said Cadet Torres. “I don’t regret anything about taking this course, I absolutely loved everything about it."
