NEISD honors its devoted grandparents

Campuses across North East ISD hosted a variety of events for a very influential group of people in the lives of their students. This year, National Grandparents Day is celebrated on Sunday, Sept. 8, so NEISD students got the chance to celebrate their grandparents with special breakfast and lunch events.

Sandra Guffy was excited to sit down and eat lunch with her granddaughter at Hardy Oak Elementary School, but it was a bittersweet moment.

“She’s in fifth grade, so this is our last year to be able to have lunch so it’s very special,” said Guffy. “We’ve been here all five years with her and we have three other grandchildren we’ve come to see [at Hardy Oak] also. They’re so open and inviting, and it makes you feel like you’re included. We love it.”

Several campuses made signs and set up photo booths to help capture special moments between NEISD students and their grandparents. Whether it is donuts, orange juice, and coffee in the library, or a tray of tacos in the cafeteria, any time spent together is considered time well spent. Thank you to the grandparents who take the time to encourage our students.
