Pre-K Academy at West Avenue opens its doors

It was a huge celebration as the new Pre-K Academy at West Avenue officially opened its doors on Friday, Aug. 16. The school held a special ribbon-cutting event right before hundreds of four-year-olds and their parents showed up to “Meet their Teacher” Night.

In less than 70 days, Construction Management professionals, District administrators and school staff came together to build, modify and enhance the school that was formerly West Avenue Elementary School, and make it fit for a pre-k campus.

Joylinda Sierra was excited to meet her new teacher and see her classroom. It was like coming back home for her mom Sasha. She was a student at West Avenue when she was a child. Now, she’s bringing her daughter to the same location for pre-k.

“We live nearby and it’s the school I attended,” said Sasha. “She was in daycare, but I really wanted her to start school here.”

It was also special for brother and sister Julian and Jimena De La Cruz who were also going to be attending the Pre-K Academy. They came to the ribbon cutting ceremony with their mom and brother who was a student at West Avenue just last year.

Among the special guests in attendance was Senator Jose Menendez who presented Principal Paul Kienlan with a Texas Flag that flew over the Texas Capitol.
