Regency Place unveils new campus facilities with ribbon cutting

Regency Place Elementary School first opened its doors in 1968. Now, more than 50 years later, students, staff and community members joined together to celebrate several new additions to the campus.

Chelsea Honse has been teaching PE at Regency Place for the last four years. She’s seen the renovations up close, and can’t wait to watch the students take full advantage of the new and upgraded facilities.

“I think when you learn in an environment that you love, you’re going to love learning,” said Honse. “That’s what’s so exciting about this for our kids. I believe it’s going to help them in all areas of growth.”

For the last two years, Regency Place has been undergoing a facelift. North East ISD’s 2015 bond provided funding for renovations to existing campus facilities and the construction of a brand-new addition that holds classrooms, a library and media center, administrative, counseling and clinic areas and a new main entrance with a secure entry vestibule.

The teachers and staff have all been waiting patiently for this day, and now they are excited to see the impact these new and improved resources will have on the Regency Place community.

“The renovations have been going on the last couple years so seeing it go from clearing everything out, to the foundation, to what it is now is so exciting for our wonderful students because they deserve it,” said Honse.

Moments like this are extra special for teachers like Honse, who is a proud product of North East ISD.

“Growing up in North East ISD has given me so many opportunities and opened so many doors for me so I can’t wait to see what it does for the students at Regency Place,” said Honse. “I love it here. It’s all I’ve ever known and it’s all I want to know.”

Parents, students, teachers, and District administrators celebrated the new additions on Thursday, August 15, with an official ribbon cutting and a surprise appearance from San Antonio Spurs mascot, Coyote.
