Garner students win ‘Do the Write Thing’ Challenge

Powerful essays from Garner Middle School students Emma Zepeda and Gabriel Orgas sent them to Washington, D.C. as “ambassadors” in the ‘Do the Write Thing’ Challenge. Emma and Gabriel were recognized for their essays and poetry about the impact of violence in their lives and community. Their work also examined the cause and effect of violence while discussing their ideas for solutions.

"My favorite part was the new friends [I made],” said Zepeda. “Even though we had never met, we trusted each other because we all had a heart and will to change the world. That's what brought us together and I think that is awesome!"

The students visited our nation’s capital with their teachers Cathy Efron and Jacqueline Dania. Congratulations Emma and Gabriel!
