Reagan student journalists leave their mark

Reagan High School journalism students wrapped up their year with another string of impressive performances at state and national competitions. Sophomores June Cui and Kylie Sczepanski won 1st place in the ILPC Spring Convention On-Site Contest at the University of Texas at Austin. This is the duo’s second broadcast award in as many weeks.

Senior Reagan Allen won 2nd place in the News Writing category at the UIL State Journalism 6A contest. Allen has competed in UIL since her freshman year and has picked up numerous awards in the process. This was her first time competing at the state level, and now she is the first state medalist in Reagan student media history! Allen is the editor-in-chief of the 320-page Regalia yearbook.

Broadcast and digital media students also competed at the National High School Journalism Convention in Anaheim, California. Sophomores June Cui and Kylie Sczepanski earned Honorable Mention for their broadcast feature on the annual Hoops Classic. Reagan students Braeden Campbell, Sante Devera-Waden, Harrison Ladue, William Long, and Sloane Wick also competed at the annual spring convention. They help produce Reagan’s first newsmagazine show, the Rattler Report.
