Fiesta Pooch Parade pets join Thousand Oaks Float Parade

Three very special therapy pets joined hundreds of students in the Fiesta Float Parade at Thousand Oaks Elementary School. Therapy dogs Hazel the French Bulldog, Bonnie the Dachshund and therapy cat Zane Grey led students with their handmade Fiesta floats down the halls and into the cafeteria on Wednesday, April 25, where parents were waiting to snap photos and cheer them on.

First-grade student Ryder Van Dam was proud to show off his fiesta float and American flag to the crowd.

“We’re getting ready to do a parade because it’s Fiesta and we’re celebrating,” said Van Dam. “I put cool American flags on it, plus a spaceman, and there are stars on it. It was really fun to make. My favorite part was putting the stickers on top.”

After Ryder showed off his patriotic float, he joined the other Thousand Oaks military children in the library to meet Hazel, Bonnie, and Zane Grey up close. All three are part of Therapy Animals of San Antonio and will participate in the 21st annual Fiesta Pooch Parade Saturday, April 27.
