NEISD students prepare for the future at Career Expo

It’s never too early to start planning for the future. That's why Raymond Lee brought his son Tristan, a 4th-grade student at Coker Elementary School, to North East ISD's 21st annual Career Expo. Tristan may not be old enough to pick a formal field of study, but he already knows what he likes. He gravitated toward booths with Virtual Reality glasses, electronics, and rocketry.

"He's still young but I want him to see what's going on, look at some of his options for the future and see how powerful education can be,” said Lee. “He's only in the 4th grade but it's never too early to get started.”

Tables with representatives from more than 100 businesses, educational programs, and trades lined the floor of Littleton Gym at Blossom Athletic Center on Tuesday, April 23, so parents and students could learn more about the options available to them. While students gathered information about potential careers paths, they were also able to weigh and compare their strengths to a specific industry.

Like many NEISD parents in the room, Raymond Lee wants to set his child up for success and that starts with knowing your options.

“My main concern for him is the future and I just want to show him what is there,” said Lee. “We're trying to find out what he's interested in now to plan for the future."

Some of the businesses and organizations present were H-E-B, Whataburger, Pfluger Architects, University of Cosmetology and South Texas Electrical.
