Roosevelt students advance to National Team America Rocketry Challenge

A rocket built by three Roosevelt High School students will take flight this summer at the National Team America Rocketry Challenge in Washington, D.C. Teammates Max and Alex Bryant are students in the Engineering & Technologies Academy (ETA) and Rylan Fontana is a student from the Design and Technology Academy (DATA) at Roosevelt. The rocketry team will compete against some of the top teams in the country and more than $100,000 in cash and prizes. If they win the top prize, they’ll also have the opportunity to represent the United States at the International Rocketry Challenge in Paris, France.

The Team America Rocketry Challenge is the world’s largest student rocket contest and a key piece of the aerospace and defense industry’s strategy to build a stronger U.S. workforce in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This year’s contest is centered around the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing. Students are challenged to design, build and fly a rocket carrying three raw egg in a capsule to an altitude of 856 feet and return it to ground with the eggs intact within 43-46 seconds.

Congratulations and good luck to Max, Alex, and Rylan!
