NEISD students win National Scholastic Art awards

North East ISD is celebrating the student artists who were named National Medalists at the National Scholastic Art & Writing Awards competition. NEISD students earned 18 National Awards, with seven Gold Keys and 11 Silver Keys. Of our Gold Key winners, Katlyn Powell of the North East School of the Arts (NESA) also earned the Arts Alliance/ACT-SO Journey Award which means the group will pay for her trip to New York for the Awards Ceremony.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program has been judging student work based on three original criteria: originality, technical skill, and the emergence of personal vision or voice. Any national attention is significant for these blossoming artists and writers, but these awards raise the bar. Artists like Andy Warhol, Richard Avedon, and Steven King have been recognized by the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards program in years prior.

The National Awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 6, at Carnegie Hall in New York. The artwork will be on display in New York during the celebration week.

Congratulations to the following NEISD student artists:
