JROTC cadets hit their marks at Rough Rider Spring Cup

JROTC programs at Madison, Johnson and Roosevelt High Schools joined forces to host the annual Rough Rider Spring Cup rifle match at Madison High School Thursday, March 7. This meet gives first-year shooters from North East ISD JROTC programs a chance to compete. This competition was sporter style shooting only, which utilizes equipment similar to hunting. Shooters are given ten shots in three positions: prone, standing, and kneeling.

“I felt like I was weighing down the team because I didn’t place as high, but I’m very grateful that we have each other’s backs,” said Roosevelt cadet My Le. “Even though I didn’t do too well this time, it’ll motivate me to do my very best at the next competition. I’m proud of how we did.”

The Rough Rider team placed 1st overall with a score of 931. Angie Mendez finished in 1st place individually with a score of 264. Her teammate Donetello Garcia placed 2nd with a score of 254.
