UIL State Cheerleading Champions

Each year hundreds of cheerleaders flood the Fort Worth Convention Center in hopes of earning the top spot in the Texas UIL State Cheerleading Competition. Students compete in a Game Day competition that includes three categories: crowd leading, fight song and band dance. Cheerleading has been a UIL sport for four years, and our very own Johnson High School cheerleaders have held the top spot for each one of them. For the 4th year in a row, Johnson brought home the 6A Division I championship title. Congratulations to the students leading the way in this top-notch program run by coach Shannon Wylie.

They have dedicated many hours of studying to understand software applications to neutralize potential threats to the electronic media and information systems we all depend on. To make it to the national finals they competed in three online rounds of competition, each lasting six hours in duration. Congratulations and good luck to team members Fardeen Bhimani, Harrison Lewis, Samantha Peace, Tristan Lee, and Jacob Rahimi.

Healthier US School Challenge Award

In January, School Nutrition Services received notification from the Texas Department of Agriculture that Colonial Hills Elementary School received a Bronze Award for the 2018 Healthier US School Challenge (or HUSSC). This is a voluntary certification initiative established in 2004 with the goal to improve children’s health by promoting healthier school environments and to recognize schools that have achieved this objective through the promotion of nutrition and physical activity. Since the program’s inception almost 15 years ago, 23 additional North East ISD schools have been recipients of a Healthier US School Challenge award. Congratulations to the dedicated team at Colonial Hills.
