During North East ISD’s regular Board of Trustees meeting Monday night, Dr. Brian G. Gottardy, who has served as Superintendent since 2011, announced his plans to retire.
During his tenure, NEISD passed two successful bond programs in 2011 and 2015, where the focus was on equity and renovation of older schools throughout the District. The District also underwent an extensive strategic planning process to find out what parents and community members value most in our schools. Under Dr. Gottardy’s leadership, the tax rate was lowered eight cents over the past four years, continuing the District’s practice of fiscal responsibility.
Dr. Gottardy is known for his work throughout Bexar County and the state. He is a champion for public education. He has served in a number of capacities including, President of the Texas School Alliance, a member of the Texas Education Agency Commissioner’s Cabinet, Chair of the Region 20 Regional Advisory Committee, a Board of Director at the American Heart Association, Chairperson of the United Way education campaign, and a member of the Go Public Steering Committee.
Dr. Gottardy believes in serving the whole child, and ensuring each student has an opportunity to thrive in and out of the classroom. He believes in a 360-degree education, where students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to be the Superintendent of North East ISD. Eight years ago, I was humbled and very proud about being the next superintendent of NEISD. I have the utmost respect and admiration for the students, parents, employees and community members who make up this great District. NEISD will forever hold a very special place in my heart,” said Gottardy.
Dr. Gottardy began his career at North East ISD in 1985 as a P.E. teacher and coach. He then worked at Southwest ISD as a coach, administrator and Transportation Director. He returned to NEISD in 2000 as the Executive Director of Transportation, and four years later was named Associate Superintendent of Operations. In 2011, Dr. Gottardy was named Superintendent of North East ISD.
The NEISD Board of Trustees will now begin the process of replacing Dr. Gottardy, whose effective retirement date will be June 30, 2019.
