Reagan Diamond Dancers audition for America’s Got Talent

Reagan High School dance teacher Valeria Sisson has coached the Diamond Dancers through countless performances over the past 14 years. On Friday, Jan. 11, Sisson watched her team accomplish a first.

“I got a phone call on Monday, which I actually thought was a prank at first, saying that America’s Got Talent had heard about the Reagan dance program,” said Sisson. “They asked us if we could come out and shoot their opening act and while we’re here we can go ahead and try out for the show.”

Auditions for the talent show were held at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Twenty-four Diamond Dancers arrived ready to perform their hip-hop routine for the judges, along with several other routines that could be featured in the opening credits. Regardless of the outcome, Sisson says this a day they will never forget.

“They are so excited, I can’t even tell you,” said Sisson. “They just couldn’t believe it, they were kind of in shock for a while. It’s kind of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for a lot of us. They’re so excited and I’m so proud of them.”
