Silver & Black Team Up Challenge highlights two NEISD schools

Two North East ISD schools are celebrating their new grants from the Silver & Black Give Back (SBGB) Team Up Challenge. On Friday, Nov. 9, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students at Nimitz Middle School were awarded $9,800 to continue their energy conservation project. Students Offering Service (SOS) will use the grant money to add recycling, wind turbines and solar panels to Nimitz’s campus.

Colonial Hills Elementary School was awarded $7,500 to expand the use of its community garden. Students will now get to enjoy mindfulness activities in the garden, which will help regulate emotions, behavior and stress levels.

The Team Up Challenge is a community involvement and character development program that teaches kids civic responsibility through hands-on learning and service within their communities. Through these hands-on programs, youth are empowered to change the world, starting right here in San Antonio. Participants were awarded based on proposals submitted for projects to improve their communities.
