Area superintendents and San Antonio lawmakers gathered at North East ISD to discuss important issues on Friday, Nov. 2. Several elected officials from Bexar County attended, including Sen. Jose Menendez, Sen. Peter Flores, Rep. Diego Bernal, Rep. Ina Minjarez and Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins. Lawmakers participated in a legislative roundtable discussion covering important issues for the 2019 legislative session.
“Having an opportunity to have a dialogue with our leaders in education is critical to our decision making,” said Rep. Barbara Gervin-Hawkins, District 120. “I like that it’s set up like a workshop, we’re rotating from table to table which is issue to issue, so we can start digging in deep about these issues so we can be very mindful about how we’re making decisions and how we’re looking at the issues that come before legislation.”
The topics discussed during the roundtable include school finance, school choice, school safety and local control.
