Strong start for cadets in Roosevelt’s San Juan Guard

New and veteran members of Roosevelt High School’s JROTC armed drill team, the San Juan Guard, took part in the Wagner Drill Meet on Saturday, Oct. 13. The drill team placed highest among North East ISD teams, and their Color Guard placed 2nd overall at the meet.

“My first drill meet was interesting, and a little strenuous,” said cadet Seth Morano. “I was nervous, but overall I had fun. It was a really good experience. It’s all about getting used to the drill meets. Did I feel prepared? Yes and no, I know I was ready, but you’ll always have that little bit of doubt in your mind."

The San Juan Guard practices Monday through Thursday to compete in categories like regulation, exhibition, color guard and inspection.

“We did well performance wise, our uniform presentation was good and overall we did great,” said Team Commander David Rodriguez. “We were definitely prepared before and during the competition. It was a good first drill meet to get us ready for the rest of the year.”
