Churchill student-created video will play at UN meeting in New York

Advanced Film students from Churchill High School are about to see their hard work recognized on a global scale. A short film created by students in Robin Morriss’ class has been selected to play for world leaders as part of MY World 360° at the United Nations General Assembly session on Sept. 25, in New York.

MY World 360° invites young people to develop digital skills and create 360° media as a way to share their perspective and advance positive action toward the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The students’ VR/360° video was created with a GoPro Fusion camera in May, June and July of 2018. The video takes a look at sea debris and ocean pollution through the eyes of Myrtle, an endangered sea turtle. The video also features several animated puppets which narrate facts about ocean pollution.

The students created 3D printed props like sea turtles and ocean debris for the video. Churchill senior Alyssa Penrod directed and produced the film with the help of Claire Golden, Zoe Del Rosario Perez and Yasmin Munoz.

Immersive videos from across the globe will be shown at the UN during the weeklong event, giving world leaders the opportunity to see the global challenges we all face today.
