Garner students lead September board meeting

The North East ISD Board of Trustees met for its regular public board meeting on Monday, Sept. 10. Two outstanding students from Garner Middle School kicked off the meeting with the invocation and pledge. Benjamin Esquivel gave the pledge and Kadyn Schwartz presented the invocation.

Benjamin is part of the Gifted and Talented program in English and Math, and is in Pre-Advanced Placement classes in all other core subjects while exceling in athletics. He is in the top five percent of his class, and gives back to his school and community by being a mentor to other students as member of the Peer Assistance Leadership and Service (PALS) program. Benjamin was joined by his parents, Samuel and Christi Esquivel, and both sets of grandparents, Manuel and Josie Esquivel, and Frank and Sherry Owen.

Kadyn is also a great example of a 360-degree student. She is in the top five percent of her class and is in the Gifted and Talented program in English. Kadyn is also is in Pre-Advanced Placement classes in all other core subjects while exceling in the Fine Arts program as a viola musician. She ranked among the best at the TMEA Region Orchestra auditions, and last year she was selected for the Con Brio Region Orchestra. Kadyn was joined by her mother Lindsie Schwartz. Her father, Cory Schwartz, teaches at MacArthur High School.

Convocation performers recognized

Julie Shore, Executive Director of Fine Arts and Student Activities, introduced the ensemble and thanked them for their hard work and for sharing their talents. Jody Noblett, Director of Music Programs, was also recognized for his musical arrangement and time and efforts working with the students.
