Capture the flag with a techno twist
Capture the flag is a classic pastime on the playground. But North East ISD students entering our Institute of CyberSecurity & Innovation (iCSI) are learning a lot by putting a techno twist on the concept.
Incoming freshmen taking part in our Summer Bridge Camp were tasked with finding a hidden file or piece of information, which would be “the flag.” This cybersecurity challenge tests their ability to find security vulnerabilities in a test IT environment.
Fun, engaging activities like this also double as a preview of what they can expect from the program. This interactive magnet school program gives students from every NEISD high school the chance to get a major head start in the industry.
They learn all about computer programming, network security, network engineering, and cybersecurity while earning coveted Industry-Based Certifications and valuable internships at no cost to them.
“Some of the students who graduate college don’t even have the certifications that our kids are leaving here with,” said Eric Asel, iCSI teacher.
