‘Snack Paks’ make an impact #theNEISDway

NEISD and Snack Paks 4 Kids Collaboration

85,000. That’s how many weekend ‘Snack Paks’ have been distributed to North East ISD students this school year. Preparations are already underway to hand out 20,000 more to students at our summer school campuses.

Kids can’t learn if they’re hungry, and food insecurity doesn’t discriminate by zip code. Thanks to our partnership with Snack Pak 4 Kids® San Antonio, students at 22 NEISD schools had access to high-quality snacks each week.

Teachers and staff work to select students who could benefit from the program. After contacting the parent or guardian, they arrange for the ‘snack paks’ to be discreetly placed in the child’s backpack each Friday.

“When these kids get their bag, we want them to know they are special and they’re worthy of the very best,” said Michelle Young Angulo, Executive Director of Snack Pak 4 Kids San Antonio. “Everything is purchased intentionally. We get feedback from teachers and the students to make sure this is something they enjoy while still being nutritious.”

It takes a village to feed our children. Volunteers pack the Snack Pak Warehouse to fill bags and deliver them to our schools weekly during the school year. While most of the snacks in the bag are strategically purchased, you can always donate any brand of 18 oz. creamy peanut butter. These are placed once a month in a child’s snack pak.

NEISD schools contribute thousands of jars of peanut butter yearly as part of our Peanut Butter Bowl fundraiser.

Thank you to the volunteers, staff and community partners who work together to ensure our children are fed and ready to learn #theNEISDway
