Founders’ Day emphasizes we are “Better Together”

Each year, our North East Council of PTAs hosts a Founders’ Day celebration to celebrate and honor the PTA volunteers across North East ISD who have gone above and beyond in their support of our students and campuses.

This year, that celebration took place on Feb.2 at Churchill High School where volunteers, administrators, students and staff gathered for a dinner and awards presentation.

This year’s theme was “Better Together,” and that sentiment was heard repeatedly throughout the evening.

"You are part of our District, as people said this evening, and that's what makes us great…that we all work together to do what's right for our 59,000 students," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Sean Maika.

"We are such a big school district, and we could not do what we do without our parents, community members and our staff," said Shannon Grona, NEISD Board of Trustees President.

Texas PTA Life Members were recognized, along with the National PTA Life Achievement Award and Texas PTA Extended Service Award recipients. As the awards were announced, the room was filled with smiles, laughter and applause. The Churchill theater, choir, orchestra, and band also did a fantastic job honoring the event with their talents.

"I’m so excited to be back after three years of virtual ceremonies," said Debbie Weissmuller, NEISD Council of PTAs President.

And the awards were received with great appreciation by the men and women who serve our students daily.

"For them to see how hard I work in the classroom and that I’m working hard for their students, it's huge to get that recognition from parents," said Kyle Kellogg, Churchill teacher.

"I was surprised, honored and excited," said Ed White Middle School teacher Laura Riggs.

"This was my first Founders’ Day event, and it was an honor to have the opportunity to celebrate our amazing volunteers in our District," said Lydia McKaye, NEISD Volunteer Program Coordinator.

At the conclusion of the program, a special Texas Extended Service Award was given to Rhonda Matson and a National PTA Life Achievement Award was given to Brenda Spradling.

Congratulations to everyone recognized for their service to NEISD.
