Good for the sole

ACE students at the Shoe In eventThe motto at the Salvation Army is “Doing the Most Good” and that’s exactly what Academy of Creative Education (ACE) students accomplished while volunteering.

Last week, ACE students helped set up for the Salvation Army’s “Shoe In” distribution event for school supplies, shoes and food. Students helped unload water from delivery trucks and move donated items to the “Shoe In” area.

“It was hard work, but I would do it again because it was fun,” said student Felicia S. “It made me feel good knowing that I’m helping for a great cause. We were helping them prepare for over 2,000 kids that were coming for school supplies.”

Many of these ACE students help sort shoes for the donation event in August and were excited to return to volunteer and see families walk away with something they needed.

Way to go, ACE!

North East ISD created ACE in 1991 to give students at risk of dropping out a non-traditional way to learn and graduate. It’s now a nationally-recognized program celebrating 30 years of new opportunities for students. ACE graduates must complete all the same requirements of any other NEISD high school in order to graduate. They also do community service.
