Welcome to the 2022 – 2023 school year!

Kids greeted with high fives and hugs with text and NEISD logo

There’s something special about the first day of school.

Students and parents, you aren’t the only ones who get those ‘first day jitters.’ North East ISD teachers and staff are excited, and maybe even a little nervous, to jump into the school year.

Kristall Oswald is entering her second year as a third grade teacher at Northern Hills Elementary School. She says as soon as the kids walk into class, the nerves fade away and she knows she’s right where she needs to be.

Kristall holds the NEISD way sign in her neon classroom“My favorite part is seeing the kids finally open up a little on the first day. As the day goes on, you’ll see the friendships build and their personalities come out.”

Every corner and wall of Oswald’s classroom is peppered with bright neon colors. She views the colorful walls, desks and décor as an invitation for kids to make themselves at home all year long.

“I want this classroom to feel like home. I want it to be a place that radiates happiness and joy. And who doesn’t love neon?”

On Wednesday, August 10, thousands of NEISD students walked onto campus – their second home – for the 2022 – 2023 school year. From pre-K students to high school seniors, our administrators, teachers and support staff can’t wait to get to know everyone.

When asked what she’s most looking forward to this school year, Oswald had this to say – and she’s not alone.

“Building relationships and continuing to watch these kids grow. On day one there’s a lot of team and community building so we can get to know each other. I have a passion for educating people and a serving heart. So, the least I can do is pour my passion into other people, especially this next generation of kids.”
