“This is good for the community and to see their happy, smiling faces was great,” said Roosevelt High School student Shai Markajani.
The Roosevelt Rough Riders brought basketball camp to East Terrell Hills Elementary School this week! Students in the Jump Start back-to-school program practiced shooting, dribbling, passing and team-building skills with Roosevelt players and coaches.
Head Coach Carl Lee believes in investing in his community. This belief and investment is something his players will embrace this school year.
“We plan on being involved more with the community and invite the East Terrell Hills students to our games this school year,” said Coach Lee. “I appreciate our guys coming out and helping our community.”
The experience meant as much to the East Terrell Hills students and staff. In fact, Principal Ross McGlothlin made sure every player left with a t-shirt.
“I was once a high school basketball player, and it is important to teach our students to continue to keep in touch and give back to our community,” said McGlothlin.
The Jump Start program provides students with exposure to core content before the school year begins. It’s an excellent refresher and reintroduction to the routine of the regular school year in a smaller setting. There’s also no shortage of fun!
