Students with Maika and Grona

Two phenomenal young women from Tejeda Middle School began the regular North East ISD Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, Jan. 10, with the invocation and pledge to the U.S. and Texas Flags.

“When I received the invitation to appear before you tonight, these two students were quick to come to mind as they embody all the great characteristics that compose a model student at Tejeda Middle School,” said Tejeda Principal Martha Reyes.

Eight-grader Jessica Shore started the meeting with an invocation about the community and what it means to her. Jessica is a member of the National Honor Society, participates in Honors Band, Theatre UIL and Academic UIL. In addition, she plays volleyball, basketball, golf and runs tracks. She is also a three-year “A” Honor Roll student. Jessica also is very involved in giving back to her community through various volunteer efforts.

She was joined by her parents Jessica Shore, and Stephen and Leslie May.

Seventh-grader Katherine Williams led the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags. Katherine is the President of the Student Council. She is a two-year “A” Honor Roll student. She’s a member of the volleyball team and participates in Academic UIL and NEISD speech competitions. In addition, Katherine volunteers with the Animal Defense League.

She was joined by her parents, Dwayne and Leah Williams, and her grandmother Sara Bixler.

After the pledge and invoation, the Board of Trustees also recognized some outstanding Madison High School students.

Senior Kiarra August, 2021 AMP graduate Amber Del Angel, senior Madeline Ortega and 2021 AMP graduate Ember Reyes competed on the Agricultural Communications Team.

Sophomore Luke Anderson, senior Elysia Jimenez, and juniors Isabel Reyes and Aspen Sollars competed on the Nursery Landscape Team.
