It just adds up

During the day, Elizabeth Testa is a Math Teacher at Legacy of Educational Excellence (LEE) High School.

By night, she’s helping students fill in some gaps through North East ISD’s extended after-hours tutoring.

“I am online from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.,” said Testa. “Sometimes students leave the classroom thinking they understand the material, and when they get home, they have forgotten a step. Our goal is to help the students be successful in their classes.”

In kindergarten through 12th grade, every student has access to North East ISD’s online tutors Monday through Thursday evenings. While the tutoring may work differently from grade level and class, this really gives students a chance for some personalized support.

Teachers, parents and students see this as a win-win.

“One student told me that staying after school is not an option due to transportation issues and loves the option because he is able to get help,” said Testa. “It is understandable that parents and guardians might not be able to assist their students in their work.  We are in this as a community trying to assist families with their child’s education.”
