NEISD Board of Trustees approves nearly $4 million in retention supplement pay for employees

The North East ISD Board of Trustees approved a retention bonus for District employees during the regularly scheduled October board meeting Monday, October 11.

NEISD administration determined funding is available through the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ARP ESSER) federal grant to permit a one-time retention supplement for the 2021-2021 school year.

Full-time District teachers and librarians with a hire date on or before October 1, 2021, will receive a one-time retention supplement of $575. In addition, all other eligible employees will receive a one-time supplement of 1% of their annualized pay grade midpoint under their 2021-2022 salary range. The retention supplement plan totals nearly $4 million in ARP ESSER funds.

To qualify, employees must have a hire date on or before October 1, 2021. Temporary, substitute and employees who work less than 20 hours per week are ineligible.

The supplement will be paid in November to eligible employees.

“It was important to bring this early to you all for consideration, and hopefully, this is a small piece that maybe gives them (NEISD employees) some respite coming this holiday,” said Dr. Sean Maika, Superintendent of Schools.
