“It’s like this whole school shares one heart.”

School is about a lot more than academics.

And at Nimitz Middle School, they know that.

“We all kind of have that heart,” said Principal Jennifer Cooper. “That’s what I look for when I hire—that heart. We can teach people how to teach. But you’ve got to have the heart.”

And “that heart” is easy to find at Nimitz.

Here’s a prime example.

Recently a student’s bike was stolen.

So, several staff members pitched in, went to Academy Sports + Outdoors, bought him a new bike and lock and then delivered it to his house that night.

They didn’t have to do it.

But that’s just what they do at Nimitz.

“This is just who we are. Administration, teachers, coaches, everybody. If anything pops up, we just handle it,” said Cooper. “And anonymous donors from the community are helping too. It’s our way of life. The LEE community just takes care of one another.”

Cooper also mentioned that they gave them a discount when they told Academy what happened and why they were buying the bike. So, she wanted to make sure they got a thank you too.

The team at Nimitz shows how to take care of one another #theNEISDway.
