Oak Grove celebrates its diamond anniversary
“It’s family here. It really is,” said Rose Parks, Oak Grove Clinic Assistant. “I’ve enjoyed it so much. No matter how many people have come and gone, we all hold together. That’s what I’m so proud of.”
Oak Grove Elementary School celebrated its diamond anniversary on Friday, May 20. With 60 years of learning, love and community to reflect on, the celebration quickly turned into a big family reunion with former students, parents, staff and administrators returning.
Parks is the most tenured member of the current Oak Grove staff.
“Believe it or not I started as a parent who was up here all the time volunteering. One summer, the principal called and asked if I’d be interested in working here. So, I jumped from four to six and now eight hours a day and I’ve been here for 32 years.”
School Nurse Barbara McCarthy was also recognized for her 20 years of service. Michael Lehman has been teaching at Oak Grove for 24 years. It’s the only school he’s ever taught at, and just like so many others, he wouldn’t want it any other way.
Here’s to 60 more years at Oak Grove!
