Parents, teachers, counselors, or administrative personnel may refer a student for GT services. Not all students who are referred for testing may qualify for services. To qualify, students must demonstrate an academic need for enrichment and must score in the 95 percentile or higher on the majority of nationally normed testing administered.
The NEISD 2021-2020 Testing windows are the following:
August & September for 3rd, 4th grade
October & November for 1st, 2nd, and 5th grades
Referrals in December -Testing January-for Kindergarten Students
Referrals in December-Testing January/February for 5th graders to enter 6th grade
If your child is a 5th grader and does not qualify in the late fall, your child will not be retested in February for Middle School unless the GT teacher determines there is an area where a child may have a possibility of qualifying. For example, high math achievement and quantitative ability scores may show that GT Math in 6th grade could be a good placement.
If your child does qualify in 5th grade, the fall scores will be used for 6th grade placement and some additional testing may be administered.
