Activities and Expectations
Music instruction at Wetmore Elementary School follows the Elementary Music Curriculum outlined by our North East School District Fine Arts Department as follows:
All Students in grades K - 5 receive music instruction. The elementary music program is based on the North East Standards and includes singing, moving, playing instruments, listening to music from noted masters from all periods and from different cultures, learning to read music, creating personal musical experiences, and evaluating musical performances.
At Wetmore Elementary, there are many performance opportunities available for students. Each grade level provides a musical program for a PTA meeting during the year:
PTA meetings begin at 6:00 p.m., with the performance immediately afterward.
Kindergarten performs at the Kinder Ender, with a morning performance near the end of the school year.
Fourth and fifth graders may participate in the Wetmore Ranger Choir, which meets on Monday afternoons after school until 3:45, from September to December, and from January to May.
Fifth grade students may join the After School Strings program, which meets after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 3:30 p.m.
Fourth and fifth graders learn to play the recorder in Music class and will need to have an instrument for their use. Ms. Kelley has new recorders available for purchase, and there are some school-owned recorders that can be checked out for the year at no charge by signing a contract (student and parent.) Please see Ms. Kelley for more details and the contract form.
