Madison grad earns savings and success
Penny Flores graduated from Madison High School in 2023. She was very involved in various clubs, participated in varsity sports and graduated Summa Cum Laude. However, it was her decision to take advantage of North East ISD’s OnRamps program, in partnership with the University of Texas at Austin, that really set her on a course for success in college.
“I will be graduating with my associate degree a semester early and starting my junior year in the Spring of 2025. However, this would not have been possible without NEISD’s OnRamps program. Participating in the OnRamps program allowed me to earn college credit hours while attending high school, which provided me with a valuable glimpse of how challenging and rigorous coursework can be rewarding in the end. This experience has enabled me to succeed in all my college courses.”
Flores is attending Northeast Lakeview College and studying Criminal Justice. She’s maintaining a 4.0 GPA and is well on her way to achieving her dreams without a big hit to her wallet. This is made possible through another NEISD partnership with the Alamo Colleges District.
Flores enrolled in the AlamoPROMISE. This incredible initiative covers tuition and required fees at Alamo Colleges, saving her and her family lots of money toward college costs. Every NEISD high school student is eligible for the AlamoPROMISE program.
“My advice to NEISD students is to take every opportunity they have. I would encourage anyone to participate in OnRamps or Dual Credit that NEISD offers.”
Flores was recently chosen as an AlamoPROMISE Student of the Month, which is quite the honor. Only two students are selected from each Alamo College campus every year.
Congratulations on your continued success, Penny!
OnRamps and AlamoPROMISE allow our students to save money, earn college credit in high school, and follow their dreams. Learn more about the opportunities with OnRamps or see how AlamoPROMISE can support student goals.
