Steve Hilliard, Trustee

“After twenty years of service as an Air Force officer, pilot, then commander, I am honored to serve the North East ISD community by contributing to the board my executive skills and policy experience. I look forward to robust discussions amongst my fellow Trustees to assist in the reaching of the best decisions. I believe we must continually encourage one another and the Superintendent to pro-actively identify and address any challenges of the District, because parents are placing their trust in this school district to help them educate their children.  Whether our graduates choose military service, vocational trades, higher education, entrepreneurship or some other path, I want each student to be able to leave North East ISD knowing that they were given the opportunity to develop the intellectual and practical skills needed to achieve the American dream.”

Mr. Hilliard was elected to the North East ISD Board of Trustees in November of 2020.

Mr. Hilliard attended NEISD schools from elementary through high school, graduating from Theodore Roosevelt. He accepted a Vice-Presidential Appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Aviation Management. Over his 20-year Air Force career, Mr. Hilliard attended numerous leadership training courses as well as pilot training courses, and was exposed to a great many things which helped shape his approach to problems, his principles, and his perspectives. He brings this with him to the board.

In 2016, he and his family returned to San Antonio and NEISD following his retirement from the Air Force. Since then, he has been an active volunteer in various capacities in the community, to include volunteering at his children’s schools (PTA, the Watch D.O.G.S. program, and other educational programs).

Mr. Hilliard and his wife, also an NEISD graduate, are blessed to have 2 children who currently attend NEISD schools.
