Melinda Cox, Trustee

I am honored to serve NEISD as School Board Trustee for Single Member District 5. I have been an advocate and volunteer for the district for almost 14 years and my three children graduated from Johnson High School.  My husband and I are both Aggies and I have a Masters of Communication from the University of Houston.

Many years ago, I left my position at Valero Energy Corporation to focus on my family and help support my children’s educational experience.

I have been privileged to be an active PTA volunteer in NEISD since 2010 and I have worked in many volunteer capacities since then.   All of these experiences helped me develop an understanding of our campuses, staff, students and families.

In 2012, I founded the Smart Driving Club to champion road safety for new and young drivers. This initiative was not only about creating safer roads but also empowering young drivers to assert their right to safety. The mission of the club is to end the culture of distracted and impaired driving.  In 2015, I established the Tex Hill Middle School Honor Flight Veterans Program. Students provide a Veterans Day program for the men and women who were part of the Honor Flight trip each year.

My primary objective as Trustee is to provide valuable insights, promote collaboration, and actively contribute to the ongoing enhancement of education within NEISD.

I strongly value the vital role our teachers play in shaping futures.  I deeply believe in the transformative impact of supporting our youth and I appreciate and know first-hand the importance of parental involvement.  I also believe in community engagement and working with our elected leaders to support public education.

Inspired by my children's positive experiences in the NEISD education system, made possible by dedicated staff, campuses, volunteers, and community members, I am committed to ensuring this enriching experience for all NEISD students.

Public education is stronger when we all work together, and I am proud to be a small part of that work.
