CTEC teacher training goes to new heights

CTEC instructor learns proper scaffold techniquesCTEC instructor goes up scaffold during trainingTeachers at the Career and Technology Education Center (CTEC) are taking their training to the next level as they prepare for the upcoming school year.

On July 22, CTEC instructors Victor Casares and Sean Jensen participated in a professional training about proper scaffolding and scissor lift operation.

The training, provided by IBTX and ABC South Texas, helped prepare instructors and tradesmen to safely demonstrate proper building techniques so that job sites and personnel can stay safe and prevent injuries.

Casares and Jensen will take what they learned and bring it back to the classroom in CTEC’s Construction Technology Academy.

Each year, scaffold accidents cause major injuries and even fatalities due to improper assembly or over loading of the scaffold. This makes it a very important skill for students and tradesmen to master.

“Tiny issues with the set-up can have catastrophic results which can be corrected when you are properly trained in the proper assembly/disassembly of scaffolding,” said trainer Eddie Garza.

Tradesmen and instructors also received training and certification on the proper use of a scissor lift. During the training, participants had to demonstrate their abilities to drive, raise and lower the scissor lift basket 20 feet in the air, and return to a starting position.
