Nimitz teachers make virtual learning fun

Daly McManus is a seventh-grade student at Nimitz Middle School. She’s social. She enjoys art. She especially loves her choir class.

“I also really like my teachers; they are really nice and explain things really good,” said McManus.

This year, Daly is a virtual student, but that isn’t stopping her from being involved in the things she loves.

“I am on the choir council,” said McManus. “I am the Commander In Service. So, I am in charge of the service projects we do.”

Nimitz choir studentsjust wrapped up a service project where they gathered donations and created care packages for healthcare workers around the community.

“They had stuff like tea that is calming because it’s very stressful for healthcare workers right now,” said McManus. “We tried to create things that would calm them and make them happy.”

While this year hasn’t looked like anyone expected, Daly is making the best of it and says this year has still been a lot of fun thanks to her teachers.

“Being virtual is kind of interesting,” said McManus. “My teachers make it feel like we are in person, like Mrs. Perelstein, Mrs. Villa, Mrs. Martinez. I mean, all of my teachers make it fun, even though we are at home. They give us time to chat with our classmates and then we do our work. If you don’t understand something, your teachers are right there to help and guide you. I really like how supported I am at Nimitz. It’s just like normal school.”
