#NEISDcares: Students embrace the benefits of virtual yoga

Distance Learning during the current break has inspired many North East ISD teachers to get creative. Robert Gonzalez of Nimitz Middle School is bringing the positive effects of a calm body, mind and spirit to his students and colleagues through his weekly virtual yoga class. Gonzalez teaches health and cadets courses at Nimitz and has been known to roll out his yoga mat on campus.

Stress and anxiety is high for many right now, and Gonzalez believes yoga is a chance for everyone to take a breath and re-center.

“Mindfulness is a very important thing, especially in these days,” said Gonzalez. “I teach yoga during some of my classes to my junior cadets as it can really get their mind focused on good things. Yoga is one way to enlighten them and show them they are in control of their own feelings.”

Teaching and maintaining healthy habits is a top priority for NEISD teachers during this break. Virtual yoga is just one way the many ways that teachers are thinking outside of the box with Distance Learning.

You can join Gonzalez in his yoga class every Monday at 11. If you'd like to join, set up a Zoom account and email rgonza20@neisd.net for more information about the passcode.

Priya Power of STEM Academy at LEE High School is also offering students and teachers a positive way to clear their head before they start their day. Click here to join her sunrise yoga and meditation course weekdays at 7:00 am.
