Northwood student recognized for PTA Reflections artwork

Every year, students are challenged to create original works of art for the North East ISD Council of PTA’s Reflections contest. The 2018-2019 Reflections theme was, “Heroes Around Us.” That prompt inspired Lance Hildebrand of Northwood Elementary School to create a piece called, “The Ultimate Sacrifice” in honor of his namesake Lance Graham, who was killed in Iraq. Graham was a graduate of Madison High School and the best friend of Lance Hildebrand’s father.

Lance’s art advanced to the state competition, where he received the Overall Award of Excellence. He also received an official letter of recognition from Texas Governor Greg Abbott, which he signed on Sept. 11. “The Ultimate Sacrifice” will be on display in Austin during the Austin Veteran Arts Festival in Austin in October and November.

Reflections is a National PTA art recognition program that encourages students of all ages and abilities to experience the benefits of creative expression to tell their unique story. It is one of the oldest and largest nationwide programs of its kind, with more than 200,000 students participating annually. Click here to learn more about the North East ISD Council of PTAs
