Students pick up new talking points #theNEISDway

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) from Ed White Middle School are communicating #theNEISDway.

Ed White and Design and Technology Academy (DATA) students recently attended a symposium sponsored by the Alamo Area Alliance of Black School Educators (AAABSE). The event also provided an opportunity for students to visit the University of Incarnate Word, giving them a taste of what a college campus is like.

Students engaged in important conversations covering vital topics based around mental health-related topics from professionals.

“I was reminded of how important it is to talk to a trusted adult like your teachers, counselors or parents,” said DATA eighth grader Teagan Villastrigo. “With a trusted adult, you can solve these problems together and strive for a happier life.”

Students talked through scenarios and shared their experiences throughout the symposium, picking up new skills and talking points to bring back to campus.

“I learned how important mental health is, and how many teens struggle to keep their mental health positive,” said DATA eighth grader Delia Cox.

Thank you to teachers Jorge Garcia, Elizabeth Malin and Cecylia Godoy for attending with the students!
