Why Music Is Valuable

Music, and all the arts, awakens our brains and allows us to see things from a new perspective. It facilitates critical and creative thinking (without us noticing), and presents us with a glimpse into others' cultures and our own. It brings mathematical, linguistic, and scientific concepts to life and gives us a chance to experience the joy of learning – because we're having too much fun to realize that we are learning. Above that, though, music teaches us to be better humans – to recognize and respond to those around us, to empathize with difficult or thrilling situations, to practice self-control, self-awareness, and self-discipline, and to cooperate with others to create something bigger and better than any one person alone could ever accomplish. In other words, music is where it all comes together!
