Marisa Reyes

While in class, Marisa, a teacher and coach at Harris Middle School, sprang into action when she recognized the signs of a student choking. By performing the Heimlich maneuver, Coach Reyes was able to dislodge the obstruction so the student could begin breathing again. The student was choking on the lid to a water bottle that they had been chewing on. This may not be the typical situation, but since the incident, additional conversations in Health classes have occurred when discussing life-saving strategies and techniques.
