Orchestra programs in NEISD are among the best in Texas. Beginning with our 5th Grade Strings program, students embark upon a journey of musical excellence in which they have the opportunity to become master musicians and gain an unparallelled appreciation for and love of music. Orchestra programs in NEISD consistently earn sweepstakes awards at UIL Concert and Sightreading contests. Many of our orchestra students earn a chair in the TMEA Texas All-State Orchestra.
The many successes within our music programs have created a strong sense of pride within our district and has resulted in NEISD being a most desirable community in which to work and live. Due to our master directors and teachers, supportive community, and talented students, NEISD will certainly continue on the path of excellence in all of our Fine Arts programs.
NEISD offers orchestra to student beginning in the 6th grade. There are no prerequisites to enroll in Orchestra I other than the desire to learn how to play a stringed instrument. Those students wishing to continue in orchestra after their first year will be placed in the appropriate ensemble according to instrument selection and/or proficiency level.
Major emphasis in the high school orchestra is placed on the continued development of technical skills and musical knowledge through the preparation and performance of music of the masters. Students will be placed in the appropriate ensemble based on instrument selection and audition to determine proficiency level.
Throughout the year, orchestra members perform eight-ten concerts as well as compete in UIL concert and Sight-reading events. Members also have the opportunity to enter UIL Solo and Ensemble competitions and audition for the “All-Region” and “All-State” orchestras. In April of each year NEISD Orchestra programs are showcased at the annual “Evening with Strings” concert.
All students participating in the high school orchestra program will be charged a district uniform fee. Students who utilize instruments owned by NEISD will be chared a district instrument usage fee. These fees are nominal and will be collected at the beginning of the fall semester.
